Boulevard Of Broken Dreams - Green Day
While this song is not of a similar genre it does have the same general theme behind it and so some of the same ideas from this song can be used in our song of choice
This video was interesting as the music video has a much slower pace than many other modern music videos which while focusing on the band, often do so using many different angles of shots, different kinds of shots etc. However this video focuses on the band but in order to make itself stand out it does so by alternating between the band itself and the band members walking along the "boulevard of broken dreams" meaning while we still see the band as we would expect, the video also contributes heavily to the general feel and pacing of the song. This shows how there does not necessarily have to be a choice between story and action in the video but that we can achieve both while still staying true to a song's theme and style and allowing the lyrics to create the story while the video acts merely to reinforce our perspective.
Key Points
- Simple story
- Story in video links with story in lyrics
- About 50/50 split between shots of band and story shots
- Band members featured in the story shots - not playing music in the story shots
- Very slow moving, simplistic video to match the story. Focus more on the story of the song than of the video itself.
