Thnks Fr Th Mmrs (Thanks For The Memories) - Fall Out Boy
I primarily chose this music video for my research as it features various changes in pace throughout the video and so is a good video to study for the various ways changing pace in a song can be handled in a music video, something which plays a very significant role in our own music video.
This video is an example of a more common form of music video. This video focuses almost on entirely on the band while using the recording of the music video as the context. The music video does however have its own unique elements in order to make it stand out, it shows the band gradually being thrown out by the monkeys running the production who eventually take everything the band has presenting a very simple story in order to keep the viewer interested in the video.
In terms of the video itself it focuses on the typical features of the more common music video in a stranger setting. Therefore it utilizes the band to its full extent, showing them in various locations playing as if it were a live gig meaning the video is almost entirely comprised of the band and nothing to detract our view from the music itself. This produces a connection between the viewer and the band members themselves which can then be used in order to draw our focus to the music and the video itself rather than whatever else may be happening around us.
Key Points
- Focus on band
- Simple story
- Story in video based around the band performing - Maintains focus of the band
- Various different shots of the band - Different angles, distances etc
- Focus on band means we are not detracted from the song by something else
- Creates link between viewer and band as they are actually playing what we are hearing
- Some sounds from video overwrite music - Can be bad if too much used - Detracts from song
- Story does not link with the story of the lyrics - Not so bad in this video but can cause trouble
