Shot List

Below is the completed shot list for our music video. This should ensure we have a detailed plan of what shots we need to take and how they should look and can also be used later for reference in editing to ensure all shots fit together well and the order is kept.

We used various narrative devices and narrative theories while creating our story to underlay the song in the video.

For example there is a very clear portrayal of Todorov's theory within the storyline as we begin the video with our main character, the performer, going on stage to play a gig as normal. This is the initial equilibrium of the video. The performer however is soon overcome with stress and faints, acting as the initial disruption leading on to the rest of the story in the video, was it simply anxiety or was there other reasons? The action could then be said to be the flashbacks as we are shown the real story behind it and the performer faces their fears as such in order to carry on with his own life. There is no true resolution as such however the flashbacks could be said to be part of it for the same reason as the action sequence as the performer fights through his worries and continues playing. Finally a new equilibrium is produced as the performance ends and the performer can relax, the concerns are still there and we know why but there is less stress on him as he can now deal with it in his own time once again.

We also use narrative devices regularly, in this case the flashbacks which are used to tell the story prior to the current time of the performance and why the performer is so stressed as we began to realise this is not simply nerves but there is a much more serious cause which only the performer and us know about, nobody else in the audience is aware. This allows us to tell the story without disrupting the performance itself meaning the video keeps the feel of a music video, heavily featuring the artist as the performance goes on in a normal fashion.

To some extent Propp's theory has also influenced our story as we have a few of the character types though not as clear as in many other cases. We still have an protagonist, the performer, who must go about his daily life despite the worries facing him while also caring for those he cares about. In some respects we also have an antagonist though not in the typical form as there is no physical antagonist. Our antagonist as such is the darkness and sadness itself, an opponent that our protagonist the performer must fight through in order to not be dragged down with it and must stay strong to retain hope and carry on with their daily life, this shows the typical theme of this music genre in how we can face our fears and other things that may otherwise seek to harm us. Through this conflict between the antagonist and protagonist the video teaches how we should face our fears no matter how dark they may be and how that is the only true way to escape them.
