Print Work Brief Ideas

Brief Notes

Having looked through various examples of previous work available on the Weebly website as well as general website there was one key theme i noticed, artwork between a digipak and a magazine advert or poster never strays too far from each other. While there are sometimes differences in order to make them stand out they always have many of the main key features so as to aid the viewer more easily link the two products which helps not only in uniformity for identification but also appears to jump out more, if we see the same image in various places often we are more likely to investigate than if the two forms of advertisement are different as we would assume it has a greater reputation if the same image is 'everywhere'.

It also aids in the purchase itself, many would much rather have a similar image for both. There are a few main ways we hear about songs, one of which is by seeing the poster, because of this a potential customer who sees the poster and is interested in learning more about the artist or specific album or may want to purchase it is naturally going to search for the same image and in this sense similar or even the same images are much more effective as it simplifies the process for the customer.

With this in mind i decided planning out specific designs was not the best way forward for the initial plan but instead creating themes which the designs themselves can be drawn from and used across all forms of marketing for the print work. Below are some of the themes:

Reflection
  • Picture of body of water
  • Drop of water disturbing water, cause ripples
  • Faint reflection of character within the water
  • Title: "Reflection"
  • Character reflection looking back at viewer of digipak
  • Water droplet imply tears
  • Reflection and tear used to reflect on theme of music
  • Sadness of reflecting on our own actions
  • Relatable for the viewer
  • Darker outer ring of water - Suggests surrounded by darkness
  • Darkness also draws attention to the reflection in the middle of the water

Surrounded
  • Dense woods/forest
  • Darken outer section of image
  • Dark tint to full image, darker on the outside - Glimpse of light in the center by person
  • One person stood in middle of trees alone
  • Draw focus towards person
  • Person appears surrounded by darkness, linking back to title of album
  • Title: Surrounded
  • Person’s back to camera - Guitar hanging down

Breaking Point
  • Railway line
  • Forest on opposite side
  • Gates blocking railway
  • Leaving civilisation to enter forest
  • Adjust brightness, darken forest side and lighten fence side. Railway middle ground
  • Title: Redline

The Fear Single
  • Dark corridor, lights off
  • Seemingly endless corridor
  • “The Fear” written on walls
  • Light glow at the end of the corridor
  • Walls darkened, "The Fear" in white paint to stand out
